Precinct Election Officials - Election Day

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be a registered voter
  • Must be a resident of the county in which the precinct is located
  • Must not be an elected government official or a manager or treasurer for any candidate or political party
  • Must not be a candidate in the election

How Appointed:
Precinct officials can be recommended by the political parties and are appointed by the Davidson County Board of Elections for a two (2) year term beginning in August of odd numbered years.

Available Positions:

  • Chief Judge: The Chief Judge is the head official and is in charge of election day activities, as well as picking up and returning Election Day supplies
  • Judges: The Judges work closely with the Chief Judge and are responsible for conducting the election in the Chief Judge's absence. They must sign all official documents and serve on a panel to resolve any challenges.
  • Assistants: The Assistants serve when needed at the discretion and direction of the Chief Judge.

Training:
All officials are required to attend training sessions conducted by the county Board of Elections prior to each major primary and general election.

Compensation:
Precinct officials are compensated for their time spent in training and for working Election Day.

One-Stop Poll Workers - Early Voting

 

One-Stop poll workers are assigned to work at given one-stop locations for the two (2) week absentee voting period before Election Day.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a registered voter
  • Must be a resident of the county in which the precinct is located
  • Must not be an elected government official or a manager or treasurer for any candidate or political party
  • Must not be a candidate in the election
  • Must be able to operate a computer

Training:
All officials are required to attend training sessions conducted by the county Board of Elections prior to each major primary and general election. 

STUDENT ELECTION ASSISTANT PROGRAM

Student Election Assistant Requirements

North Carolina law (G.S. 163-42.1) allows students to be appointed to serve as student election assistants. These students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be at least 17 years old at the time of the primary or election.
  2. Be a United States citizen.
  3. Be a Davidson County resident.
  4. Be enrolled in a secondary school or home school.
  5. Have exemplary academic records as determined by the school.
  6. Be recommended by the school's principal or director, and
  7. Have parental consent.


No more than two student assistants may be assigned to one voting place. Each student assistant works under the direct supervision of the election judges and receives the same training and compensation as other assistants.


Anyone meeting the qualifications, should complete the application form and either mail, email, or hand-deliver the application to our office. In order to be considered, forms must have the proper authorizations and signatures.


Student Election Assistants are compensated at the same rates as the other Election Assistants.
