candidate filing information

Candidate Filing for the 2026 Primary Elections begins at 12:00pm on December 1, 2025 at the Davidson County Board of Elections office located at 945 North Main Street, Suite A, Lexington, NC 27292. It will end promptly at 12 noon on December 19, 2025. Filing will only be open during regular business hours.

**Visit the 2026 Candidate Filing page to see a list of open seats and the filing fees***

All candidates who file for office must have an active Campaign Finance Committee. Paperwork to register a new committee must be filed within 10 days of organizing the committee or filing a Notice of Candidacy, whichever occurs first. By law, candidates must organize their committee with the Davidson County Board of Elections (for municipal or county offices) or the North Carolina State Board of Elections (for state offices) within 10 days of spending or receving money on behalf of a candidate campaign. If no money is spent or received before the candidate formally files for candidacy, then the candidate campaign committee can be organized at the time of filing.

Please contact the Davidson County Board of Elections for more information on Candidate Filing at (336) 242-2190.
